Removing scratches on glasses

Prescription glasses are expensive. For those whose recipe rarely changes (which use the same lens for several years), maintaining clean and free of scratches lenses is not easy. However, this is difficult if not impossible. The glasses are designed to be scratched, making them less effective. The deeper fissures require replacement of lenses, for scratches is not necessary. Save the money you would have to spend to replace the lens polishing scratches.

Instructions

  1. Using your fingers, apply a lens micro-abrasive polish (available online or through a local optometrist), toothpaste or furniture polish on both sides of the clean lens.
  2. Polish with a soft cloth lenses with wax or toothpaste until they are clean.

Tips & Warnings

  • The lenses that have a protective coating or antiglare can’t always be polished enough to remove scratches without removing the layer.
  • Some scratches can be in the protective layer, not on the lens; these cannot be polished.
  • Abrasive polishing removes material surrounding the scratch to level the surface. This may change the shape of the lenses, making them less effective.
  • The lenses made of glass (vs. plastic) are stronger and better able to withstand abrasive polishing techniques.
